An Alpaca Retreat

Story by Kirk Richards

We took the drive to Flowerdale after a long day of work in Melbourne. Getting away to the country air is exactly what we needed. As we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the two Alpacas, Alina and Armstrong. We brought our little Dachshund Cookie and nestled into our cosy tiny house and enjoyed a few glasses of wine.

The first morning was spent watching the rain and listening to music, enjoying the tranquility of the area. Alina and Armstrong were close by so we spent a lot of time feeding them and enjoying their quirky personalities.

Not far away was Kinglake National Park, so we thought it’d be a perfect opportunity to take a drive and visit a waterfall and grab some lunch.

Not far from the stay is Flowerdale Hotel, we grabbed a great feed there later that night and enjoyed an early night ready for the morning to come.

Before check-out, we took the row boat out for a peaceful morning on the lake. It was a great way to top off a relaxing weekend.

Things We Did

The Lake

Kinglake National Park, Masons Falls Rd, Kinglake West VIC 3757, Australia

We took the boat out and rowed around the lake, enjoying the surrounding hills and trees. We were told it's also a great place to fish! The lake area is easy to access and has ducks and other wildlife there to greet you.

Mason Falls

Kinglake West VIC 3757, Australia

We visited Mason Falls, a stunning waterfall viewpoint in the heart of Kinglake National Park. It's only a short 10-15min walk to view the falls and a great place to stop and have lunch or a picnic with family and friends.
