Beautiful property in The Gurdies

Story by Tom Quan

Tiny Away manage over 30 eco-friendly, tiny getaway houses in Victoria and New South Wales. I was lucky enough to be invited to stay at one of the houses situated on a beautiful property in The Gurdies – a small village located in Bass Coast Shire in Victoria.

The house is set on a working farm with cows, chickens, horses, alpacas and an olive grove. The property owners make their own olive oil and a bottle can be found on the kitchen shelf for guests to enjoy. Upon arrival you’ll immediately be greeted by stunning panoramic vistas. Grab a drink and plonk yourself on the tiny deck. It’s the perfect place to take in the fresh air and watch the sun set behind the grazing cows.

Inside, you’ll find just about everything you could need. There’s a shower, compost toilet, towels, linen, mini fridge, kitchen and cooking utensils. As the name would suggest the space is indeed tiny but you never feel confined or squeezed. The queen sized bed is located up top and is accessible via a timber ladder. This was probably my only gripe as climbing up and down does get tiring pretty quickly but I assume it was designed this way to minimise overall footprint while maximising living space (totally understandable).

If at any time you wanted to leave your tiny retreat and do some exploring, top tourist attractions such as Phillip Island, Cape Peterson and Inverloch are only 40 minutes drive away. I can highly recommend a visit to Cape Peterson and stopping off at Eagles Nest or any one of the beautiful beaches along that particular stretch of coast.
