Grand Pacific Drive to Berry

Story by Tom Sacca

Driving down from Sydney, we couldn’t miss the scenic route along the Grand Pacific Drive. A drive which takes in 140 kilometres worth of coastal scenery from the Royal National Park, it continues through Wollongong, Kiama and the Shoalhaven. We made a quick stop at the Sea Cliff Bridge, which spans 665 metres over the ocean, snaking around the eroding cliffs, a highlight destination when travelling south from Sydney.

Upon arrival, you are surrounded by horse paddocks all the way up to the tiny house. The dwelling, outdoor seating and fire pit is cozily surrounded by a few tall trees, as though they were put there for house!

The house has everything you need for your tiny escape, thoughtfully decorated with stunning prints of photos from around the area.
The bed is nothing short of laying on a cloud! Complimented with incredibly soft sheets. Along with the thoughtfulness, there’s a bible of local things to do, places to eat and destinations to visit. On top of that, your friendly hosts are more than happy to share their local knowledge of the area and the secret “must see” places.

Speaking of small towns, Kangaroo Valley has another incredible reputation for passers by. On the drive there alone you’ll pass breathtaking rolling hills, fluffy cows, wineries, pine forests and gorgeous estates. Not to mention the stunning array of waterfalls all incredibly close to one another. Carrington, Belmore and Fitzroy Falls are some of the most impressive.

The beaches are unlike any other for hundreds of kilometres. Jervis Bay and Sydney beaches can get overwhelmingly crowded, especially in the warmer months. However, some of the best kept secret beaches lie within the Berry/Shellharbour area. From Killalea State Park/ Minnamurra to Bombo/ Gerroa all the way to Culburra. You can quite often find yourselves being the only people on the entire beach.
