Into the Pokolbin wine region

Story by Tom Sacca

After the drive up to the tiny house and checking in, we worked up a fierce appetite. What better place to satisfy a grumbly stomach than in the Hunter Valley! Just after a quick 20 min drive, we were deep into the Pokolbin wine region. We followed our noses to the Goldfish pizza restaurant on the Roche estate. The estate is also home to Japanese cuisine , the Smelly Cheese Shop, and of course, a cellar door.
After the tastiest lunch at Goldfish, we were ready for adventure. (Would recommend the chicken pizza)

According to locals, we heard there was a waterfall that only appears when there’s been at least a few days of rain, which we’ve previously had. So, armed with a handful of details and sheer willpower. We started our adventure into the Watagans National park, in search of the mysterious Gap Creek Falls.

Within a 20 minute walk into the gully, we found ourselves descending to an impressive amphitheatre of rock with the dramatic Gap Creek Falls in front of us. This 40 metre drop expands remarkably from a minor trickle to a full fledged waterfall probably 30 metres across.

You can swim here, although its quite shallow, the cold water is nothing short of refreshing.
